“Sleeping
Beauty” has woken up…
... after nine centuries, the
charm of this magnificent tower, second in height to the Asinelli Tower,
is still intact. The ancient bricks marvellously laid testify the manual
work of skilled labour who knew how to impress onto the Tower the harsh
character of the incorruptible medieval fortalice, which fascinates
whoever comes close to the selenite base.
After an accurate restoration in order to conserve and emphasize
particulars that time was compromising, the twelve floors are now all
perfectly accessible. The recovery of the original state of the prisons’
plasters has revealed inscriptions and graffiti long forgotten.
In addition, all the rooms have been adequately lit and are connected
to each other using safe and easy stairs.
Built for being of extreme and impenetrable defence in case of enemy’s
attack, after having been strongly contended through the centuries, it
is now open to all those who can appreciate its uniqueness and want to
re-live history’s strong emotions.
